A glance at the release schedule for 1998 reveals an incredible amount of quality video games that went on to become smash hits, cult favourites and everything in between.

1998 was a year that represented the ‘sweet spot’ where video games had grown to touch the mainstream, but creating a new, retail quality game was within the realm of a small team with a low budget.

It was a year where designers were both discovering new frontiers, while perfecting their own traditions.
